Caffeine Kick is Real

We all have a basic understanding that caffeine gives us some sort of energy. But can caffeine enhance performance in sports? According to “It’s Time to Make a Coffee Run” by Gina Kolata in the New York Times, the answer is yes. Kolata explains the extensive scope of caffeine’s benefits:

“Exercise physiologists have studied caffeine’s effects in nearly every iteration: Does it help sprinters? Marathon runners? Cyclists? Rowers? Swimmers? Athletes whose sports involve stopping and starting like tennis players? The answers are yes and yes and yes and yes.”

So why hasn’t caffeine use during physical activity become a major trend yet? Maybe athletes would prefer not to be drinking coffee or a carbonated drink like a soda before competing.

That’s where avitae comes in. avitae gives you 45 mg of natural caffeine, which is about the same as what you’d find in a diet soda, while hydrating you with purified water.

CEO Takes avitae Shower

Last Thursday, March 19, the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center celebrated its Open House, and Brian Pitzer and the rest of the avitae team joined in the fun with a ribbon cutting. If you didn’t know already, avitae is headquartered in the new DEC, so it was a great opportunity to have guests over.

But the fun didn’t stop with just cutting a ribbon. Watch the video to see Brian doused with energy water.

nbc4 appearance

On Tuesday, avitae and our founder and CEO, Brian Pitzer, were featured on nbc4. It’s really exciting to get the chance to show that even in this economic climate, entrepreneurs can succeed with the help of programs such as the Columbus State Small Business Development Center.

Thanks to Michael Bowers and everyone at the Columbus State SBDC for the continued help and also thanks to WCMH for taking time to talk with us.

Two cool products that help “un-busy” your life

I’m so busy I can’t…
I don’t have time to…
If there were only more hours in the day…

We all know how it feels. Which is why we’re always on the look-out for products and services that cut time and give us more of our lives back. Here are two we found recently that we can’t stop talking about:

EasyBloom
This is the coolest little gadget for anyone with a thumb that’s a few shades this side of green. Simply insert the EasyBloom sensor in an area of your yard or garden where you’d like to plant, or next to an ailing plant and the sensor will record growing conditions. Then, connect the sensor to the provided USB connector in your computer and it will begin analyzing your data. In Monitor mode, you’ll be told what is likely wrong with your ailing plant. In Recommend mode, you’ll be told the ideal plants for your soil, sun and growing conditions. It’s like a digital green thumb!

GoWear Fit
Too busy to deal with your health and fitness? Here’s a gadget that will deal with it for you while you go about your normal daily activities. Just strap on the small GoWear Fit armband and you’re done!

The GoWear Fit armband tracks a variety of data throughout your day:
- daily caloric expenditure
- daily caloric intake
- calorie balance
- total physical activity (sedentary, moderate and vigorous)
- total steps taken
- sleep duration and efficiency

At the end of each day, you can simply log into the GoWear Fit online activity manager (you purchase a monthly subscription) to get accurate, easy-to-understand information plus tips for how to best reach your fitness and lifestyle goals. You’ll also get unlimited access to your data, printable reports, trends and monitoring tools to track your body’s progress over time.
